(Update about her day below!!)
Kira woke up this morning chattering on and on about how it was her first day of school...excited to wear the outfit that she picked out, get her "feather bow" in her hair along with a curl in her bangs. She chatted through breakfast and getting ready.

She made silly faces for me.....
She willingly and walked to the van and hopped in. She was excited to see her OT, MaryJo waiting for her when she got to school.
(And told me the sun was way too bright!)
She was saying hi to kids and teachers while waiting for the bell to ring. She was excited to see the assistant nurse, Laurie, who will also be helping out as Kira's aide.
Then the bell rang....
and she starting picking her hand so I gave her her backpack to carry. As we walked down the hall, I could see it coming....I knew what was going to happen next......
yep, she was crying.....
Silly me had a LITTLE hope that MAYBE she would do okay since up until that moment she had been excited. She WANTED to be excited...I know that she did.
She ended having to basically be peeled off me, screaming.
And yes, I quickly left the room before she could see the tears in my eyes.
I hope that she is having a fun day.....
I got an email from her teacher this afternoon saying that it took until around 9 AM for her to settle down and then she did great. She got upset again later in the day...apparently lunch time was running pretty slow as kids are just figuring out what to do so by the time she got done eating, recess was pretty much over. She got upset about that but calmed down by the time they got to PE and did great the rest of the day.
She was smiling when she came out of school today and chatted my ear off.
Starting tomorrow, Jason is going to take her to school. Her aide will meet her at the car and take her in. We decided that it was best to just start with that this year rather than us walking in...it was hard to break that habit last year.
Hoping for no tears but am guessing there may be a few....

Oh Cori, that picture of her crying just puts a big lump in my throat. I'm glad that she settled down and was able to have a good day (mostly). I hope she has a great year of 1st grade! Keep us posted for sure!
