On Wednesday Kira had her tonsils and adenoids out. The ENT said that he hadn't seen adenoids that looked that bad for a long time...and the tonsils were pretty bad too.
Kira did better than I expected the days of. As soon as they called her name, she fell apart which I expected. She pulled herself together once we were in the room. I had packed bag of stuff to keep her busy!!
We made the cow puppet on the bed and she loved the Crayola dry-erase board....she had fun writing Jason and I notes and playing tic-tac-toe. We had to take a short break to have her blood pressure and pulse ox done...
She decided she wanted to make a 2nd puppet....a bird, with Jason. Shortly after I took this picture, they came in and give her Tylenol and another med to help her relax. We could tell when the meds started to work because she would try and try to get the stickers off the page and couldn't.....coordination just kept getting worse. While the meds relaxed her, it didn't stop her from getting upset as people came by to talk to us.
I was able to ride on the bed, with my screaming child, when it was time to go back. She told me in no uncertain terms that I was "making a bad choice making her do this!".....that got some grins from people. She got pretty upset but it didn't take long for the gas to calm her down.
When she got to recovery, she woke up REALLY fast which is odd for her. She had really hard time for the 1st hour or so. She really had no idea what was going on, kept asking if she was done with surgery, she wanted to go home, etc. She was not happy one bit when she realized that she had an iv in....luckily it was put in once she was asleep! It took awhile but finally she was able to calm down and watch her movie and doze.
We had to stay for 4 hours since she had tonsils and adenoids out. She dozed and watching movies most of that time. She was not happy when they had to take the IV out but we just kept telling her that it was the last thing before we could go home.
We got home and she had a hard time...wanted to sleep but was uncomfortable, didn't want to drink but needed to....she finally decided she want to lay our J and my bed where it was quieter. That was a good choice because it did help calm her down.
She had a really rough 1st night but today (Fri), 3 days later, she seems to be doing better. We had a couple of "scares" with vomiting and I had to inform her that if she didn't start sipping water she might have to go back to the hospital.......she is sipping whenever we tell her too.
This morning she was surprised to get balloons from Eema and Bumpa! She's been excited about them all day!
I have to admit that I really wasn't prepared for how rough this would be. I guess it just felt like a pretty simple thing compared to all her other "stuff." Dylan and Eva can feel free to just keep their tonsils and adenoids! :-)
