And there ya have it...

EvaDiva's pout.......

And for the record...Eva officially thinks her name is "EvaDiva".  If you ask what her name is, she says, "EvaDiva."  If I say her name is Eva Ruth, she says, "No.  I EvaDiva."

We're gonna have our hands full with this one! :-)

I knew the day would come.....

I've always known that the day would come when Kira would start to ask more questions about why she was different......why she uses a wheelchair sometimes.......why she needs braces........

BUT I wasn't prepared for today to be that day.

We were snuggling after her nap and she looked up at me and said, "Why do I keep having to have all these tests done?  I don't like going.  Dylan doesn't have to do it and Eva doesn't.  Why do I?  You know it's just not fair Mommy."

(**insert me trying to burst into tears and come up with SOMETHING to say....and I know that all of this came up because of her upcoming "stuff" on Thursday)

I'll be completely honest, I seriously didn't know WHAT to say.  I really had no clue....probably because I ask myself the same question frequently too.  It's NOT fair.  And I HATE it.  Don't get me wrong.  I am 110% thankful that we live in a place where medical care is IN our town.  I have friends who have to travel and I can't even begin to imagine having to do that.  I am thankful that even though it feel like one thing after another, I KNOW that Kira's health issues could be significantly bigger and worse.  I know that and it's a fact that is not lost on me for one minute.

As I was cuddling Kira we talking about how special she was and how all these tests weren't fun but how some kids don't have doctors who care about them and want to make them feel better.  I told her that I didn't know why she had to have tests done.  I told her that if I could do the tests for her I would.  She got a little angry at me because she said that "I make her do them."  I couldn't deny that but explained that I love her so much that I don't want her to have tummy aches everyday and I don't want her to cough and gag when she eats so we need to see if we can figure out why.  (I don't think she believed me but she didn't argue either.)

I was hoping that was end of our conversation....but no luck.

Then she asked me why she was different.  I wanted to find out what she meant exactly so I asked her.  She talked about her wheelchair, braces, that she couldn't run fast, that she cries more than her friends........(okay, Kira, these really could have been multiple conversations instead of everything at once.  Mommy's heart really can't take it!)

We talked about how everyone is different....some kids run fast, some don't.  Some kids think reading is easy, some kids don't.  We talked about how as long as she's doing her best, that's all we want.    We talked about how God made everyone EXACTLY like He wanted them to be and that means her too.  I told her that she is so, so special and I am so lucky that she is my girl.  I wouldn't want any other girl in the world.  And then she asked for a snack....... :-)

I have to say that I haven't been able to stop thinking about this all night and yes, have felt teary-eyed more than once.  And yes, I got a little ticked off that she has had to go through all the crap that she has.  And yes, I got a little ticked that she does have to work harder at so many things compared to other kids.  But I know that she is EXACTLY how she was meant to be.

I would be lying if I said I don't worry sometimes about what the future holds and that there are still days I long for "answers"....whatever they may be. I would be lying if I said that I don't worry with every test that this could be when something else "big" shows up. Will we ever have clear answers?  I don't know.

But like I told Kira more than once today....she is EXACTLY who she is supposed to be and for that, I am so, so thankful.  I love my girl.

Cats out of the bag.......

A little over a month ago, we had a follow-up appointment with Kira's new surgeon to talk about the results of her kidney ultrasound and swallow study.

Fortunately, her kidneys are perfectly fine which was a huge relief to me since the day of the ultrasound they kept stopping, talking to the doctor, coming back for more pictures, etc....that's enough to make any Mommy crazy!

Her swallow study showed that her mobility has gotten worse which we were pretty sure of.  Unfortunately, there's nothing else that they can do about that.  It's just something that she will have to "deal with" and we will have to make decisions about as the needs come up.  There was also a spot on her esophagus that was concerning to the surgeon.  He felt like it was a big enough concern that he should schedule her for a scope and take a look.  He is also going to check out a couple of other things to see if we can find an explanation for her tummy pain that seems to happening more and more often.

As I was talking to the doctor, we were pretty  much talking in code because I didn't want Kira to know what was coming since it was so far out.....well, that cats out of the bag as of today.

Today we had lunch, just her and I, so I decided to take that opportunity to talk to her about it.  Her first reaction was, "I don't want to do that!"  Believe me sweetie, I don't want you to have to do it either!!  We talked about how she didn't remember having her tonsils out because she was sleeping and I assured her that she wouldn't remember any of this either.  Once she had confirmation that she could bring 2 stuffed animas and her blankie, she pretty much moved on to eating her lunch and chatting about other stuff.

I know that as next Thursday (July 28) gets closer, she'll be less "laid back" about it but unfortunately, it needs to be done.

We welcome your prayer and positive thoughts that Kira will be able to get through this little procedure with the least amount of anxiety and worry possible.

Eva's 1st swimming lesson!

We decided to try Eva in swimming lessons since she had been enjoying our time at various pools this summer and I'm REALLY glad that we did.

She was ready to go and have to admit that seeing her standing there, on the platform, by herself, made me realize what a big girl she's getting to be!  It was soooo cute when she would look over at me, smile HUGE and give me a long wave!!  Love my girl!!!

Miss Megan asked her to put her ear in the water.....she put her whole FACE in the water!

Wasn't quite as sure about the backfloat...

JUMP!

Jump and going under water...looked surprised but didn't get upset!!

When she got done and I walked over to meet her, she said to me, "I have fun!  I take nap now?"
We had to stay another 1/2 hour because Dylan had his lesson next.
She sat eating her snack but ask me several times if it was time for a nap now!!

It's safe to say that we'll be signing Miss Eva up for lessons now too!!

Pool time!

The kids were REALLY excited that I was going to set the pool up and they couldn't wait to get in it!  They had fun for about 10 minutes, then Dylan jumped in and the pool popped!  They thought it was funny to play in the pool while it was slowly deflating! :-)

Why do I keep trying....... :-)

To get a picture of all 3 kids??? :-)

Oh well, maybe next time! :-)

Fun at Eema and Bumpa's!

More sprinkler fun at Eema and Bumpa's over the 4th of July.....

Haircut time!

Excited to try water balloons......

Not-so-excited the water balloon popped! :-)

The sprinkler IS fun!

Kira spent 3 days with my parent the week before the 4th and she had a GREAT time!  It was fun to get emails from her letting me know that she was loving every minute of her time with them!  Dylan REALLY, REALLY missed her.  He actually had a hard time with her being gone.  I just had to keep him busy to keep him distracted.

I decided to get the sprinkler out and let D and  E have some fun in it....Eva wasn't sure at first but eventually she realized it was a blast! :-)

And then the icecream truck came by so Dylan got a Shrek icecream treat.....
And Eva got a bomb-pop.....

Fun times!!
