Appointment updates.......

Let's start with Kira! :-)
Kira had her appointment this afternoon with the Communications and Aides Clinic at the Waisman Center.  We have been talking with the therapists and teachers about trying to get her set up with a voice recognition system on the computer to help her with some of her "writing."  Her hands and fingers get really tired, really quick and it's made keeping up difficult.  We did a trial of Dragon 10 which they normally don't use until kids are closer to 10 or 11 years.....I wasn't so sure that it would actually work BUT Kira impressed the socks off of ALL of us!  She figured it out pretty quickly and had the basics down in less than an hour!  You go girl!  The biggest "problems" were 1) she would talk too fast and 2) she wouldn't say her words clear enough which would mess up "the dragon."  I was excited to hear that we can buy this program at Best Buy for a reasonable amount of money!  I have emailed her teachers and am hoping that we can get this included in her IEP for next year.  I'm pretty sure they will be supportive of it.  We plan on getting the program so that we can all becom familiar with it and Kira can work with it over the summer.  It is NOT our intention that she stop doing the writing activities...we will work to find the balance that she needs.  Kira has adjusted BEAUTIFULLY to her new classroom and it's been a very positive experience for her.  Even though we were disappointed about the change, there have already been great things happening and I really think it's a great change for her.  Kira has a couple of appointments coming up....behavioral ped in a couple of weeks and pulminologist in April.

Eva has her 1 year well BABY (she's still my baby) appointment last Friday.  I was disappointed to find out that she has lost enough weight that she has really dropped off on the weight chart. :-(  All her food allergies really make it hard to find high calorie, healthy foods for her.  We are hoping to touchbase with a nutitionist soon (although getting them to return a call hasn't been easy....) to see if they have any suggestions for us.  Her head has grown and she gotten a little longer which is good.  Her dr was happy that we've continued with therapy.  She's sitting like a champ and will spin herself in circles but she hasn't figured out any way to actually be mobile...frustrating and disappointing to say the least.  She impressed the doctors and nurses with her vocabulary and her very serious expression....no crying other than shots but no real smiles either! :-)  We got back at the beginning of April for a couple of shots that I held off on and for weight check.  Eva has an appointment at the beginning of May with the allergist and will be re-tested for her current allergies although after this weekend and a SMALL slip-up on Mom and Dad's part, we know that she is still very, very allergic to dairy!!! ;-)  OOPS!

Dilly Boy.......Dylan had his screening with Child Find to check out his gross motor skills, fine motor skills and overall development.  He has been referred to have further evals in gross motor skills and fine motor skills.  I wasn't surprised...atleast on the fine motor skills.  While I'm disappointed that he might need therapy again and slightly overwhelmed at the thought of adding more to my week, I'm so very thankful that we live in a place and time where these services are available.  All of my kiddos have benefited from therapy and I am grateful for that.  Dylan still loves preschool and talks about his friends everyday.  It's been fun to listen to him share more and more about his day as the year has gone on too.  Dylan has an appointment with a neurologist in April so I'll update about that afterwards.

Those are our updates for now! :-)

You've been a busy Momma! What great news about Kira's program--I think she'll love having a way to show what she knows, and if she practices all summer, she'll give the tutorial in the fall!
Hugs to my favorite Dylan and sweet Eva from us!

I am so glad to hear about Kira's new program and that her classroom transition went well - YAY! I hate that you are so busy with all the therapies, but glad too that you have them available to help those kiddos thrive. Amazing kids. Amazing mom!
